Let's see how small a nutshell I can get this into.
At approx 4.50pm 05/08/04 Insane exited the east bound tunnel and took the East parade exit to turn right into East parade. He was first to the line. It is pouring with rain. His light goes green so he cautiously proceeds into the intersection to turn right.
A Nissan Pintara on his left proceeds through a red light and collides with his LH side. He goes onto the bonnet, into the windscreen and off the side, where he proceeds to attempt to stand and get to the railing off the road (the witneeses we spoke to today have filled in a lot of blank spots).
90 minutes later he is delivered to RPH by the ambo's, who have removed his boots, draggin jeans, DriRider Nordic jacket, shirt and t-shirt with a large pair of very sharp scissors.
He has a ruptured left calf (later required 2 skin grafts and further operation in about 2 months) and multiple fractures of his tibia and fibula. 36cm "nail" is inserted into the tibia the next day as well as the excision of 25% of the calf muscle, 2 days later the first of the skin grafts, 2 weeks after the accident a 2nd skin graft.
Dec '04 a bone graft is done as the bones are not knitting. still a risk that amputation may be required. 12 months after the accident (aug05) all is looking better. The bones have started to knit and amputation is less of an option unless infection gets in.
Next week (5/04/06) is 20 months since the accident. Surgery is still not over as the skin graft has become unstable, so another avenue has been considered by the plastic surgeon.
